Adding a table lamp on one side or both sides can offer a beautiful ambience in the evening and can be wired to a main switch or on an electrical timer so that you are greeted with warm welcome after a hard day at work. If adding a lamp on just one side, make sure the objects you place on the opposite side help to create an overall balance look. For example; if your lamp is on the right side of the console, a vase at a lower height could be placed at the left hand side.
Along with an entry or hallway, a console table can also work well in other rooms of the home. It can act as beautiful addition to a dining room and living room by helping to define an area and also by creating a visual balance against heavier items of furniture such as the dining table or sofa for example. It is an important piece that can act as a ‘finishing touch’ to help a room to feel complete.
Chrome finishes are also great alongside coloured or patterned carpets and rugs as they will beautifully reflect the colours. Gloss fits into a range of interiors but would add a lovely smooth look when placed on a coloured carpet or coordinated tiling.
Address shape and scale to the console table. Visual interest can be created with contrasting shapes. If you have a lot of square or rectangle objects such a books, trays and boxes, place an object either on top or next to them that’s round or cylindrical for contrast. Also introduce objects that vary in height to bring visual weight to the vignette and help to create balance. Remember to keep it simple – don’t over-clutter. Allow white space for the eye to rest.
